Dear Families,
Each day at school we will learn to live with discipline as we consistently do our best. Whether we are working alone or as a team, our actions affect others and ourselves. For this reason, we will take every opportunity in class to practice self-control build each other up and maximize our learning time. We will be using the following procedures in order to ensure our success during the school year. Please make sure you review this packet, sign and return the back half sheet. (Given to your Student in class OR you can print a copy of the class procedures from this link)
Discipline
We are a Make Your Day school. Your child is responsible for his/ her own behaviors and will be in charge of assessing himself/herself on such behaviors several times throughout the day. Your child rates the points that he/she has earned. If he/she earns the points, as noted on his/her agenda, please congratulate him/her for taking responsibility for his/her day. Help him/her set behavioral goals. When this happens, the “Home-School Communication” form will be sent home and must be signed and returned the following day. It gives you the information you need to have this discussion. It does not mean you child failed.

“Make Your Day” Steps
(Consequences for not following the school-wide rule)
Step 1: It allows a student less than five minutes to sit away from the activity to think about the interfering behavior.
Step 2: It allows a student less than five minutes to stand in the same place, which is a kinesthetic cue that the students’ circumstances have changed.
Step 3: It allows a student less than five minutes to stand, focusing on the rule card, which is a kinesthetic cue that this is the last step before involving the parents/guardians.
Step 4: Immediate parent/guardian-teacher-student conference at the school. It involves the parents so they may help their child.
Step 5: Administration-parent/guardian-teacher conference, which often results in suspension.

Lining Up
-
I will call you to line up in a straight line before exiting or entering any room.
-
Before entering/exiting any room, you will line up quietly and calmly until the teacher tells you to enter/exit the room.
-
Straight line, Face forward
-
Voices off
-
Line up one step away from the wall
-
Keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself
-
-
When exiting, the first student in will be responsible for stopping the line at every corner of the buildings and wait for the teacher.
-
Respect everyone around you by walking quietly and safely in a straight line (remember that there are classes around us).
Entering or Exiting any room
-
If going with the class, we will follow the lining up procedures.
-
If going by yourself, enter or exit quietly.
-
When entering another room when the class is in session, make sure you enter quietly, stand by the door, wait until the teacher approaches you, and say, “Excuse me...” Do not interrupt the class.
-
When someone else enters our room, you may have eye contact with the person or wave, but do not talk. It interrupts your and others’ learning.
-
If for any reason you need to leave the classroom, please make sure you first ask for permission.
-
Sign In/Out and take the appropriate pass.
Attention Methods
-
“5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0” I will get your attention using a countdown. Zero 0, means you are seated quietly with hands and feet to yourself, eyes on the speaker.
-
Restroom and Water are only allowed when the teacher is not teaching. Please wait until instruction time is finished so you do not miss anything.
-
Pencil sharpening: start the day with at least 2 sharpened pencils. If not, make sure you ask to sharpen your pencil during transition time

Silent Reading
-
The only way to succeed at reading and become active readers is to PRACTICE!!! You will have the opportunity to read silently every night as part of your homework.
-
You will also have silent reading time in the classroom. Therefore, you should come to school each day with a book.
Homework
-
Students should spend about 45 minutes on homework. You should do your homework in the same place, around the same time each day, be sure you have the supplies you need handy (such as pencils, eraser, and homework folder).
-
Homework may include, but it is not limited to: any unfinished work, silent reading, studying for an upcoming test, and/or completing a weekly or long-term project.
-
When you complete a homework assignment, place it in your binder and check it off in your agenda. Place it in your backpack. Do this right away so that you do not leave anything at home!
-
You can obtain homework grade points only if:
- Your turn in your homework on time
-
You are absent and you bring it the very next day
-
Teacher and parent communication/arrangement has been made. This includes giving a note to the teacher from your parent/guardian, with his/her signature, about the reason you did not bring your homework so the teacher is aware and gives you extra time or help.
Handing in Homework
-
Each block/subject has its own bin. All homework assignments will be turned in at the beginning of class.
-
You are responsible for turning in all homework assignments on time, completed, and neat, using always your best handwriting.
-
Be sure to staple all assignment that has more than one page.
-
NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED unless it is due to being absent or teacher-parent communication/arrangement has been made.
Absent Assignments
You are expected to be in class every day. However, we all get sick and have to miss school occasionally. Do not make missing school a habit.
-
If you are absent, you have the same number of days you missed to make up any assignments.
-
Upon return, you will need to get any missed assignments. It will be your responsibility to ask the teacher and/or your classmates any questions you might have before the end of the day about your homework assignments.
Missing Assignments
NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED unless it is due to being absent or teacher-parent communication/arrangement has been made. This includes giving a note to the teacher form your parent/guardian, with his/her signature, about the reason for not having your homework completed so the teacher is aware and gives you extra time or help.
End of Class
The clock does not dismiss the class. THE TEACHER DISMISSES THE CLASS. You will need to:

Count your points to ensure you made your day. If you do not make your day, you will need to get a “Home-School Communication” form from the teacher, discuss it with your parents, and bring it signed the next day,

At the end of the assembly, you will remain seated until your teacher gives you permission to stand and be dismissed orderly and quietly.
